Introduction to Falconry Workshop - Recap

On August 27th, the NC Falconers Guild and North American Falconers Association hosted the Introduction to Falconry Workshop at the NC Wildlife Resources Commission Centennial Campus Center in Raleigh, NC. The event registration had to be closed early as the auditorium would exceed fire code limits. There were 66 registered attendees, with 52 in attendance.

The agenda summary was as follows:

Falconry Laws & Regulations - NC WRC

NC WRC Education - NC WRC

Sponsor & Apprentice Relationship - Daren McGrew

Hunting with your Hawk - Aaron Kincaid

Suitable Hunting Grounds - Seana Manire

Bird Equipment, Mews, Weathering - Richard Shores

Raptor Anatomy, First Aid & Diseases - Anne Steinert

The workshop went smoothly - the attendees all seemed to learn valuable information about falconry and hunting with birds of prey. There were several that intend to pursue falconry apprenticeships that will be attending the picnic, and several others that decided falconry was not for them but were interested in working with birds of prey through other avenues.

The Guild would like to give a special thank you to April Rice for all of the time and effort put into this event, as well as Wanda Mugo and the NC WRC for graciously hosting the event and their presentations given.
